Program Overview
The Arts Academy Charter Middle School Figure Skating Department believes each of our student figure skaters deserves a rewarding learning experience regardless of their level or status.  The department provides the opportunity for students to develop a passion for figure skating through high-quality instruction on and off the ice.

AACMS Figure Skating students travel to Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem for classes, which are taught by highly experienced Figure Skating faculty.  The program includes a balance of instruction on and off the ice, including off-ice dance, yoga and strength and conditioning classes.  On-ice instruction varies between individual and group lessons and includes power, edge and jump classes.  The program emphasizes goal setting and self-assessment, using video to complete self-critique and reflection activities.  Visits from guest speakers, coaches and judges further enhance the experience, which remains available to student skaters of all experience levels.

Figure Skating is available to fifth grades via the Figure Skating Workshop, which meets for one 60-minute class period each six-day school cycle.  Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade may enroll in Figure Skating as a primary arts focus.  Figure Skating is not currently available as a secondary art focus.

Performances
The Figure Skating Department prepares one major showcase each year, typically performed in May.  Figure Skating students also perform at other community events held at Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem and the PPL Center in Allentown.
